Name: otterclaw Age: 27 moons Gender: she-cat Clan: windclan Position: warrior Short Description: sleek black she-cat with deep yellow eyes
Appearance: a study of the she-cat in question begins with the outer appearance. observers would note that the feline has very thin, very sleek black fur. this fur clings to the animal's skin, revealing her to be of a lean, lithe build, something very common among her clan-mates. she has a light frame, with just enough muscle mass to allow her to match the pace of any of her companions. it gives her an aerodynamic look, making it easier to sprint at top speeds across the open moores so that she is able to catch large rabbits to feed her clan. her onyx fur is without any flaws, with no other color blemishing the solid coat. if one were to put the specimen in a dark room, she would likely disappear altogether, save for her eyes.
the deep yellow eyes that reveal any inner emotions are a deep yellow color, like pools of liquid honey. they are large and round, showing the expectations of her future. in most circumstances, they hold a serious expression, as she goes about her duties as a warrior. but occasionally, they will reveal some underlying feeling, though it takes a very determined cat to pull this from her, and a glitter of ambition can be caught lurking inside those orbs at certain times.
her face is round, with small tufts of hair poking outward at both sides of her face, with somewhat long ears perched atop her head. she is a bit tall and rather gangly, the rest of her body just beginning to catch up to her almost stunted legs. her tail, which was once long and would flow behind her as she ran, is now a messy stub, the remains of a run-in with a dog from her past.
Personality: warrior code otterclaw is the poster child for the warrior code. ever since she was a little kit, she looked up to the warriors in her clan, knowing that she wanted to be as brave and courageous as them some day. now that she is a warrior, she takes all of her responsibilities very seriously, carrying them out without questioning them for a moment. she doesn't take lightly to disrespectful cats and will immediately let them know that they are at fault and should follow the code more carefully.
hard-working without a doubt, otterclaw works her tail off (quite literally) to help the clan in any way that she can. she hates to not be busy with something and can rarely be found relaxing in camp. she loves to go hunting, though she usually does this by herself, but doesn't care as much for border patrols and the like, since some of the cats like to take their time on these. in other words, social interaction isn't huge on her priorities, unlike the work that she seems to love to do.
socially inactive it isn't that she's awkward in social situations, she just doesn't go out of her way to talk to other cats. she has a few friends in other clans, as well, though she rarely talks to them unless she runs into them at a gathering. if she does need to get away from the cats of camp, though, she usually heads toward the border with riverclan, knowing of a certain spot where few other cats really go. here, she can reflect on her goals and how camp life has been going for her.
ambition as soon as she was named an apprentice, otterclaw began looking up to the leader at the time, smallstar. the black she-cat quickly realized that that was what she wanted in her future, to be leader of the whole of windclan. she always kept an eye on how smallstar carried herself and tried to nearly copy it. of course, the loss of smallstar was a blow to her ambitions, but with sparrowstar's flawless transition into the position, otterclaw soon began envisioning herself as leader again, she knew that she had to one day continue the line of strong she-cats to lead the clan.
living for her mother when otterclaw finally was old enough to understand that her mother had died while she had been only a kit, she made a habit of thinking about her and what she would expect from her. from the stories, otterclaw knew that her mother, heathercloud, had been a strong warrior, as well as one of the fastest in the clan. she also knew that she had to live up to her mother's example and be the best warrior that she could. in everything that she does now, she thinks of heathercloud and how proud she would have been of her daughter.
History: heathercloud had been on the track to becoming deputy, a leading cat in windclan. so when she suddenly and unexpectedly found herself pregnant, she was forced to watch her dreams crash around her. after all, deputies weren't allowed to have kits, and there was no way she could stop these kittens from coming. so then, in the dead of the night during leaf-bare, a single black she-cat was born, and heathercloud named her otterkit. unfortunately, the pregnancy had left her vulnerable to diseases, such as white-cough, which claimed her life only days after otterkit's birth. after this, the newborn kit was "adopted" by another queen who had her own litter in the nursery.
it wasn't revealed to otterkit how her mother had died until she was six moons old, just after being named otterpaw. while most apprentices would have been devastated to hear such news, otterpaw simply put it in her mind and used the knowledge as a tool to push herself to work harder, to train as her mother would have wanted her to. certainly, she mourned the hole that her mother had left in her life, but she never let another cat see her show it. no, that would be showing a sign of weakness, and she needed all the strength she could in order to become leader.
as soon as her training began, the she-cat found an idol in the leader, a cat who she could always look up to. she began envisioning herself as the leader of windclan, and this pushed her to work even harder. she knew that she had to be like her role model one day.
it wasn't long before otterpaw found herself named otterclaw, and was now responsible for actual warrior duties. she practically beamed at her naming ceremony, and she didn't move an inch during her vigil, though she thought at one time that she heard a voice on the wind, whispering to her. she took this as a sign from her mother, relaying just how proud she was of her daughter, though she couldn't be completely sure of this. regardless, she listened to the sound and let it soak into her, memorizing it and keeping it in her mind forever.
days and moons passed as she went about as a warrior, learning from other older warriors as well as the leader herself. so of course, when a tree suddenly struck the leader while she was on her last life, otterclaw was devastated and was sent into a slight state of depression. the strong leader she had idolized since she was a kit had been taken from them, in the blink of an eye, so how could she expect herself to be a leader some day? of course, as with all emotional phases, this one passed with the naming of the new leader who quickly proved to be more than capable of his new postition. otterclaw had found new respect for the tom, since he had showed little sadness at the loss of her previous leader.
a regular flow was placed back in the routine of the clan, that is, until another tragic event took place. otterclaw and one other she-cat came into contact with the a dog while out hunting, and were forced to make a dash toward the river. in the stress of the moment, otterclaw had forced her friend to run in front, since the cat in the back would be in even more danger. because of this, the dog had caught up to her and managed to take hold of her tail, snapping it off, though this was the only taste of cat he managed to get. this incident was what left otterclaw without the tail that she had grown to be so proud of.
