Moving quietly through the night the only thing lighting her path was the bright moon in the sky. Not a cloud to be seen. An owl calls out in the distnace but that doesnt break her concentration. Her tail is rested a few inches off the ground and her body is feeling the earth under her. Slowly she pulls her claws out and openes her mouth to take in the sent. A vole. Out late at night. Just what she loved.
Her ears flattened against her head and she was just about to spring when suddenly, a huge night owl came down and took the vole in a blink of an eye. Wildfire jumped from her spot and landed out in the open just in time to see the owl carry away her food in its claws. Giving a growl she turned around angerly and had to start all over.
It took her all night to find that vole and now she won't be able to find one for some time now. Wildfire was the night time type of cat. Did her jobs at night and would get away sleeping in the morning only for a bit. She didnt have an apprentice and thats how she liked it. She padded on in her home and decided to check borders then go back to hunting.
Things seemed fine at the borders when she got there. silent as ever. Another owl gave a hoot in the ditance but she ignored it. Feeling her stomach rumble she regreted not taking something to eat before she left camp. Now while hunting she wasnt allowed to eat anything because the clan came first. Her blue eyes scanned her home and she listened very closely for anything that moved.
She spotted a fallen tree that was resting on the ground and she decided to try and find something when she was more above the ground. She jumped up on it and walked down the bark to where the tree then ended. Hearing a movement not far from where she was she got down in a hunters crouch, pulled back her ears and was ready to spring at whatever came out..

Ebony fur merged with the darkness of the night, making the warrior seem almost invisible. Glowing amber eyes peered out from the darkness, however, and an ear flicked as he heard sound nearby. Turning toward the noise, the black form recognized it as prey and slunk forward a few steps before crouching down. A few more steps forward, a pounce, the glint of claws in the moonlight, and a dead frog lay on the ground. The warrior straightened up, looking around for a moment, eyes scanning his surroundings, before digging a shallow hole with the speed born only of a considerable amount of practice.
Hiddenheart buried his catch, his mind already wandering to where he should hunt next. Normally, he chose to not hunt at night, preferring the early morning to the near complete darkness that followed the setting of the sun; however, he had had the urge to hunt just as the dusk patrols were returning, and decided to give in to it. He had not made a bad choice, as his hunting had been fairly successful. Ears flicked as the predator moved off again, paws gliding lightly over the familiar ground. How often had he hunted in the various parts of ShadowClan territory? How often had he just wandered the territory, during his free time, enjoying his solitude and the peaceful silence that came with the lack of companions? As he padded in a random direction, for it did not much matter which way he went, Hiddenheart let his senses explore.
Every now and then, an owl released a low, almost mournful sounding hoot, and the flutter of wings hinted at night time birds or bats flying low overhead. The occasional croak of a frog or the trickle of a small stream pierced the otherwise almost silent night. Above in the sky, the moon hung, illuminating parts of the territory. A shadow, almost cat-shaped, caught Hiddenheart's attention and he whipped his head around to see a midnight black figure perched on a fallen tree. He froze, but she must have sensed him, for the other feline moved to the end of the tree and crouched down, ears flat against her head. The warrior recognized the other cat as a clanmate.Hiddenheart stepped into a beam of moonlight, trying to appear as non-threatening as possible, for he was in no mood to be pounced on that night. Keeping his voice low and quiet, he meowed, "Do not attack; I have no intention of hurting you."

Wildfire let her guard down and relaxed. It was only her clanmate hiddenheart. Standing up tall she sat down on the log with the moon beaming down on her fur making it shine. "Hiddenheart, what are you doing out so late?" she mewed in a soft tone. Just because she didnt trust toms didnt mean she wasnt going to talk to them. She would still carry on a conversation but she wasnt going to tell them any secrets or even...fall in love with them. If it was one guard she did leave up was when it came to toms. She still was a sweet cat and caring but was very careful on how she talked to toms.
Looking at the moon she gave a blink and mewed, "It's a very nice night out. not a cloud in the sky.. if i only had the eye sight of an owl our clan would be so fat we couldnt move for a moon." She gave a purr of laughter and tried to imagine her whole clan fat because of how much prey they were able to get and eat. Leaf bare wouldnt be an issue. She could have the other clans starve but she only worried about her own home. No one elses.

An ear twitched as the soft spoken words cut through the air, easily audible to him despite their quiet tone. "Hiddenheart, what are you doing out so late?" His tail flicked and a grin almost graced the corners of his lips before he quelled the expression, keeping his polite but distant appearance. "I could ask you the same, Wildfire," He countered smoothly, though his voice held no hostility or accusation. "However, I was out hunting and enjoying the silence that comes with the night. I assume that you were as well?"
Hiddenheart had noticed that she too, seemed guarded and reserved around him, which was perfectly fine with him. He preferred having quiet, somewhat intellectual conversations with fairly taciturn cats rather than hyper and loud ones with a talkative feline. At least, with Wildfire being reserved, she would not necessarily expect him to talk as much as another cat. Broken out of his thoughts by her next words, the ebony tom paused a moment, comprehending them, before nodding in agreement. "I agree," He meowed amicably, "It is a very nice night out. And I should hope the cats in our clan would be intelligent enough to not eat that much." In fact, the mental image of cats, let alone those of his own clan, that were too fat to even move was slightly disturbing, though the tom did not mention it. But he understood the allure of having an owl's eyesight; it would be considerably easier to catch prey. [/size]

Wildfire watched the tom closely and nodded. "Yupp, just out here trying to enjoy the quietness of it all and making sure no cat comes over.. just because its night doesnt mean things still cant happen out here.." Looking around the dark forest her gaze went back to the tom and flickered her ear. She didnt know what more to say to him. He was here, great, he can leave now..
"I feel like hunting is more harder at night then it is in the day time. you have other predators out with you, like badgers, foxes and owls." she mewed calmly.
She was still very upset about that owl taking her food. She should have brought the owl down, but fighting an owl with talons those big and long she would be dead before any cat could find her. You respect an owl.. if its one thing she knows.
She's been this luck so far to not run into any other animals hunting on home. If she had run into a badger, it wouldnt be easy trying to fend it off all by herself.

"True," He replied easily to her words, "Very true." In the moment of silence that followed, Hiddenheart let his gaze wander, leaving her shadowed figure and scanning the surrounding landscape. As he had expected, nothing had changed; the moon still hung bright in the sky; the trees still cast their long shadows across the ground; the owl hooted occasionally. It really was a pleasant night out... The sound of Wildfire's voice jolted him out of his musings, and amber eyes locked on her once more.
"I feel like hunting is more harder at night then it is in the day time. you have other predators out with you, like badgers, foxes and owls." He found himself nodding along with her words. Talented at hunting, Hiddenheart often found the normal stalk-and-catch method a bit repetitive, and when he was not on patrol, occasionally challenged himself. Perhaps he would approach upwind, perhaps he would have to leap over something. Of course, on these trips, it was never necessary to catch the small bit of prey. "I agree," He meowed simply in response to her words, finding no need to elaborate on his enjoyable habits. "We are always competing, during the night, over a piece of prey. We have to catch the prey before another predator, perhaps an owl, like you mentioned, snatches it up." The conversation consisted of idle small talk, and Hiddenheart found himself wondering if it might be better to say farewell and part ways. Wildfire did not look very comfortable with him around, and he could see that this conversation would get no where. Despite his doubts, the tom decided to stay, for at least a moment more, to hear her reply.
