Vipermoon used her strong limbs and sharp claws to easily climb up a pine tree. The she-cat was collecting pine needles for bedding in the warrior's den. Though it was an apprentice job, the warrior enjoyed the task since she got to have a bit of fun climbing trees as the best needles were always higher up.
"I really wonder why Shadowclan cats don't like climbing." Vipermmon pondered "Maybe it's because Thunderclan is well known for their climbing skills and we're too proud to do something another clan does. It's pretty stupid. If we can do something our enemies can do, doesn't that makes us stronger somewhat?"

The munchkin cat made his way through the forest. He was still called munchkin by many of the leaders. Maplestar huffed. It wasn't his fault he was so short. He sneered as he made his way through the pine forest with short strides. He may not have been a fast tom but he was powerful. So that shouldn't fool you. His eyes fell on Vipermoon. A good warrior of Shadowclan. He listened to the she-cat talk out loud to herself and he snorted. His legs were too short to climb so he would just have to yell from where he was.
"Or it makes us twice as weak Vipermoon." The tom mewed.We all know how to climb trees but we all have one thing that none of the clans have that makes us 9 times more powerful and that is the wit we carry on our shoulders. We can outsmart all of our opponents in battle. Let them climb trees or swim. Even then we have never lost a battle thus far. Why fix something that isn't broken?" |

Vipermoon was slightly surprised by Maplestar's sudden presence but twitched her whiskers a bit in amusement as she heard his reply to her thoughts.
"That is true Maplestar but why not make upgrades? We can all learn a thing or two from each other. Remember, open-mindedness is important in a good leader. Be proud but never too proud. Be willing to acknowledge the strengths of others and your own weaknesses or else you shall perish." the black she-cat answered in response while gracefully jumping down from the tree, in front of Maplestar "But there's no need to listen to a former rogue like me. Those ideas mainly come from my life then so no need to listen."

Maplestar nodded intently while listening to the she-cat speak. She had a point. Maplestar was a very proud leader and if he saw kits that looked strong he occasionally started their training early. Not overly early just 5 moons old instead of 6. Maplestar looked at Vipermoon while contemplating that part of training into the apprentices. However, with the lack of knowledge of swimming and tree leaping how would they train the apprentices/
"We will start with you then. The next litter of kits should be on the way soon. You will be in charge in overseeing their training with their mentors. You are after all the best tree climber. So you will just have to mentor them. We will just have to give that batch of warriors apprentices at a young age to make sure that we are upgrading out skills. Now all we need is a cat who can swim and one who can run swiftly until we have power from all the clans..."

Vipermoon's golden eyes widened a little in shock. She hadn't been expecting Maplestar to take her comments seriously. Him giving her this much responsibility and power was very good for the mission but the gray-eared spy felt a bit horrified and guilty for she was also given trust that she would break into a million peices in the end.
"Thank you Maplestar! I promise I'll do my best to train the future generation." Vipermoon put on her cover and hid her true feelings "Also, remember, peace should be valued among everything else. Do not be rash and do things to break it. Please."

Maplestar remembered how he gave out the other clans secrets to blizzardstar. He would purposefully go into battle knowing the weaknesses. Maplestar thought for a moment. He wanted to be powerful just like Blizzardstar. He wanted to be the one feared by all the clans. The power flowed through his paws and he knew he had all the control. He looked at Vipermoon who was still sitting content on the limbs of the pine tree and just shook his head.
"I trust you will train the next few generations to come in a quick and good matter." he mewed. There was a good chance that his own clan didn't know he took strong kits at 5 moons old instead of 6. Neither did the other clans no one knew.Don't be breaking the peace either vipermoon..." he mewed his tone filled with suspicion.

Vipermoon gracefully jumped down from the branches of the tree and landed in front of Maplestar on all four legs. As she made eye contact with her leader, you could see a glimpse of pure sorrow and agony.
"The peace will not be broken by me." the she-cat replied though her mind was screaming the exact opposite "I want to tell you one more thing Maplestar, Don't let power destroy you. Take over your life. I've seen good, noble cats who have crumbled due to their greed of power and control. It's a horrible fate to be crushed by power."

Maplestar watched as the she-cat jumped gracefully to the ground. You didn't even feel the ground shake the slightest bit when she did so. With a mused look on his face he just nodded. He wouldn't let power get to him. At least not physically. What he thought in his own mind was different. Different indeed."I won't let the power get to me Vipermoon. Does it look like a small tom like me has a lot of power to dish out to other clans? Ill keep my paws in my own buiseness for now until the other clans make it clear they want to mess with Shadowclan's strong warriors.

"Power comes in many forms. Surely you would know that. You may be small compared to other cats yet you are smart, wise and powerful." Vipermoon reminded Maplestar with a flick of her gray ear "Anyway, what brought you out here? Oh yes, before I forget to ask, do you need any fresh pine needles for your bedding? I'm collecting some needles right now so if you need any I can put some fresh pine needles in your den. I would tell an apprentice to do it but I have none and the others are busy training..."

Maplestar didn't need to be reminded that he was a witty tom. He knew that very well. In fact he knew that he was powerful. Clans couldn't beat Shadowclan because of their intelligence. He just let the thought play in his mind for a little bit. He was snapped back into reality when Vipermoon asked about bedding. She then went to continue on about an apprentice. Was this she-cat hinting at wanting one? Of course Maplestar did say she could have one."I wouldn't mind new bedding Vipermoon. Just because you don't have an apprentice personally doesn't mean you can't tell them to do chores. Would you like to Mentor Rosepaw Vipermoon?" The tom asked. Rosepaw had been asking for a mentor for awhile. It would keep the she-cats busy.

"Really? I'd love to!" Vipermoon exclaimed happily, golden eyes shining "I would've asked another apprentice but they were all busy and I didn't want to disturb them and their mentors. I also don't really mind doing the job since climbing trees is fun."
The cat was truly excited at the prospect of having an apprentice but wondered what would happen to the apprentice when her mate followed through with a few of his plans. She wanted to make Mongoose happy and proud of her but was hesitant to easily betray the other cats she had gotten close to.
"I'll go collect those pine needles now!" Vipermoon announced, shaking her out of her thoughts.
The black and gray cat used her long, wickedly sharp claws to easily climb high up into the tree and collect some of the best pine needles.

Maplestar just nodded. Something was odd about the way Vipermoon was acting. Almost as if the she-cat was keeping a dark secret. The tom raised a brow and just nodded. She would have to keep the she-cat busy if he wanted to find out what was going. the best thing would be to give her an apprentice and make her a deputy. Maplestar raised a brow even though Lichenthorn his own brother would been much suited for the job he needed to keep the she-cat under his supervision."Would you like to be my deputy Vipermoon?"
