Mistypaw padded into camp, keeping her head low. She didn't want to make eye contact with anyone. She'd just had her first hunting lesson, but she hadn't caught anything. Her mentor padded beside her and told her not to fret, that not every apprentice caught something their first time out. Mistypaw shrugged her shoulders, not wanting to say anything.
Her mentor sighed and told her to take some fresh-kill to the medicine den. They might be hungry. Mistypaw cheered up slightly. She enjoyed being in the medicine den, because they so often needed help. And she enjoyed helping, that she did! So the light silver she-cat took two water voles from the fresh-kill pile and padded toward the medicine den.
After pushing her way through, she observed the area. There didn't seem to be anyone there, but that didn't really mean anything. Lightpaw or Howlingwind could just be in the storage or in the actual den part of the den. Mistypaw put the water voles down on the ground and called out softly, "Hello? Lightpaw? Howlingwind? Are you there?"

It had become a routine for the small apprentice, waking up in the morning, wandering over to the medicine cats' den, sorting herbs, memorizing their names, deciding which ones they were in need of and how much of it. For any other apprentice at the mere age of nine moons, he was certain they would be bored out of their mind, but that was not the case for the orange tabby tom cat. He loved what he did, he loved the smell of the herbs, the appearance of them, how he was able to see the texture embedded into the leaves. With everyday, he was able to distinguish between them a little more and it made him giddy thinking about how close he was to becoming the medicine cat. Well, he wasn't that close, but a cat could fantasize and that was what he was doing on a daily basis.
Lightpaw had been in the den since dawn had broken over their camp, though he was not doing anything now. He had sorted all herbs, taken inventory and even came up with exactly what to tell Howlingwind when he asked him later, that is, if he would ask him. Now, he was laying by the herbs, breathing in their scents, attempting to match the smell to the name, though it wasn't that easy considering all of the scents were mixing together into one intoxicating scent that was making him drowsy ... carresses his scenses ... lulling his brain into a sleep state ... visions of dreams beginning to cloud his vision ... a yawn parting his jaws, his head setting down on his dainty paws... only a quick nap...
"Hello? Lightpaw? Howlingwind? Are you there?"
She might as well of yelled in his ear. Body spasm waking him from his drowsy stupor, his pale eyes shot open with a jolt of his heart. Looking around to see who it was, he was met only by the herb pile which he had wound up kicking when he awoke. Groaning with frustration, he rose to his paws and walked out of the den and into Mistypaw, just barely stopping himself before he collided with her. Letting out a little "oh!" he backed up slightly and looked at her curiously before his eyes located the two voles sitting in front of her paws and it clicked. A smile erupted on his face and his chest burst with the sounds of a purr.
"Hi Mistypaw! Is this for me?"

A squeak escaped Mistypaw when Lightpaw nearly ran into her. She backed away from him, her eyes on the ground to avoid making eye contact. Lightpaw asked if the voles were for him, and she managed to squeak out, "For you and Howlingwind, if he's here..." She looked up enough to see that the medicine cat was indeed absent, and felt her ears burn in embarrassment. "O-Oh, he isn't here, is he? That's okay, though, because I can come back with something for him later..."
She trailed off, knowing that she was babbling now. Mistypaw shuffled her paws nervously, and her ears twitched around in a circle. She hoped Lightpaw didn't think she was an idiot now...

Tilting his head to the side slightly, he couldn't help but cock his eyebrow when she let out a peep of noise and back away from him. Lightpaw wasn't used to those kind of reactions from cats, due to his small size. Granted, Mistpaw wasn't much bigger than the young tom, but still, it was a mild shock to him. Even when she replied to him, her voice small and the words rather forced and unsure. She was kind of cute, in an innocent little sister kind of way. It caused the apprentice to giggle a little bit, though it wasn't a rude one, merely amusement at the way she was acting. Glancing over his shoulder as her eyes looked into the den, he shook his head in response and he shrugged his shoulders, and sighed.
"I'm not sure where Howlingwind is this morning, but that's okay!"
[/b] He said, his purr quieting but not leaving. Lightpaw stretched his paw forward and drug one of the voles towards him. Ears twitched as flake of snow touched it, he took a bite. "Thank you, Mistypaw. I really appreciate this." Pausing to take another bite, he chewed slowly, and as soon as he finished swallowing, he opened his mouth to speak again. "Why don't we share? I'm not that hungry, and I think you should have some food too. And, this is pretty darn good!" He spoke lightly, his eyes twinkling with happiness at the other apprentice who looked extremely nervous an uncomfortable. "You okay, Mistypaw? You look nervous?" A hint of concern touched his words, his brow furrowed a tad.[/blockquote][/blockquote][/size]

The sun pushed through the entrance of her den. Graystar stirred from her sleep, the she-cat wasn't usually sleeping this late. Her flank rose quickly as Graystar pushed herself up. Shaking the moss from her pelt, she stretched. Her ears twitched back and forth listening to what was happening. She could here Lightpaw and it sounded like Mistypaw sharing-tongues in the medicine den. Graystar pushed through the entrance of her den and into the camp. The sun hit here so fast, it blinded her shortly. She blinked away the sun that still hung in eyes. The gray she-cat padded over to medicine cat den and peeked in. She observed that Mistypaw stood by Lightpaw as he ate a vole. Graystar smiled and mewed to the apprentices "May I come in?"

Tearing his eyes off of the she-cat, he noticed the figure of his leader approaching them. The groggy look of sleep was still playing upon his gray features and he smiled as she came upon them. He liked his leader, she was a kind soul, in his opinion and he enjoyed talking with her. Looking to Mistypaw, he smiled at her brightly before returning his gaze to that of Graystar.
Standing up to go and greet her, he noticed just how small he was as he stood at her paws, barely coming past her knees. Sadness touched his heart and he sighed. He hated how small he was, especially when larger Clan mambers approached him. Lightpaw was certain that many thought he wasn't fit for being a medicine cat because of his side, just another reason why he was dead set on showing them he was more than able for the position.
"Good morning Graystar!" Dipping his head, Lightpaw spoke to his leader in the sweet tone. "Sure you can come in. Mistypaw just brought Howlingwind and me breakfast." Lightpaw turned to walk back into the den to where Mistypaw was sitting, and pushed the remainder of the vole towards her. "How did you sleep last night Graystar?"
