All in a Day's work![open]

Fawnpaw skipped through the camp entrance, three mice held by their tails in her mouth. She'd been out on a hunting patrol, the first one she'd been on since the season had changed. And boy, had it been a good haul! The prey was coming about much more often, and were definitely showing signs of plumping up. Though Icepetal, another of the patrol, had told her to wait for greenleaf before making comments on the size. They'd be huge by then!

Icepetal followed after her, her own mouth filled with a squirrel. They both made their way to the pile and dropped it down. They stepped back and looked at the pile, pleased to see it already increasing in size. "Think we should go out again? T'is the season of good hunting!" Fawnpaw asked her friend.

The warrior seemed to think about it before shaking her head. "No, it's fine. We'll go out when Tigerflight asks us to. Speaking of," Icepetal narrowed her eyes on Fawnpaw playfully, "isn't he your mentor? Why do you keep pestering me? Go find him and do something useful!"

She aimed a cuff at Fawnpaw's ear, but the apprentice dodged neatly and laughed at Icepetal's mock annoyance. "Aw, you know you love me Icepetal!" she teased with a grin.

"Well its good to know that someone in this clan does.." Frostbite mewed padding up from behind the two cats. She over heard their conversation and thought about Tigerflight. Where was that deputy? You would se him for a second then he would be gone the next. and for a while. You just had to pick him for deputy didnt you skystar.. she thought. She looked at the apprentice and raised an eyebrow. "You want to do something useful? Help me chew up some herbs"

Fawnpaw laughed at Frostbite's remark and shrugged, grinning innocently. "Aw, no need to be grumpy Frostbite! If you want help, all you have to do is ask. Silly Frostbite!"

Icepetal gave the apprentice a pointed, blank face. "I'm not saving your furry butt when she claws it. And you know if you keep being a mouse-brained fool that she's going to eventually!" Fawnpaw snorted and made a face back, resulting in Icepetal giving her a not-so-playful cuff over the head. Over the apprentice's whining, Icepetal meowed, "Just because we're friends does not mean that you can get away with disrespecting me."

Fawnpaw scowled at her and pouted. "I wasn't disrespecting you, I was playing with you!" She turned to the medicine cat with a pout. "Frostbite, was I being disrespectful to my dear friend Icepetal?"

Frostbite raised an eyebrow to the young apprentice and then looked at icepetal then back at fawnpaw. "What you are being is annoying and If you dont quiet that mouth ill be more then happy to fill it with herbs that you can chew for the rest of the day with me. Then we can see who is being mouthy. Once i'm done with you, you wont be able to talk for a day. On second thought lets get going with this.." She looked at Icepetal and asked, "Will i be taking her away from you from anything important Icepetal?"

Icepetal snorted and rolled her eyes good-naturedly when Frostbite asked if she was taking Fawnpaw away from anything important. "Please, you'll be doing me a favor by taking her away from. I don't care if you have to drag her by her tail, just get her away from me!" Fawnpaw gaped at her with wide eyes as she padded swiftly away. Over her shoulder, Icepetal called back, "Have fun Fawnpaw!"

Fawnpaw stayed gaping for a second before heaving a huge sigh. "I need better friends." she meowed dully. Then she shrugged. "Ah well. I'll help if you need it. But can I ask why we're chewing them up? Don't you only do that when you're about to use them?"

Apprentices nenver stop talking.. Frostbite padded into the den and past a kit she brought from the nursery not to long ago. She dropped a few herbs infront of the apprentice and mewed, "Chew these like you have never chewed anything before in your life." Frostbite padded over to the young kit yelling for milk and Frostbite licked the poor thing and whispered, "You will be back with your mother soon I promise little one.." Frostbite looked back at the apprentice and mewed, "Well? Lets go!"

Fawnpaw sniffed the pile of herbs after Frostbite placed them in front of her. She screwed up her nose, racking her memory to try and remember what it is. She eventually sighed in frustration at her lack of success and picked up a few leaves in her mouth gingerly before chewing rapidly. The apprentice watched as the medicine cat went over to the kit and said a few words.

Fawnpaw almost swallowed the herbs in surprise. She'd never heard Frostbite sound so motherly before. She spat the chewed up herbs on the ground and picked up the next pile. The apprentice wondered if Frostbite wished she could have kits. Fawnpaw had never given it much thought before, but all she-cats have at least some maternal instincts, right?

Frostbite looked back at the apprentice and hissed, "Really Fawnpaw could you take a few more moons to chew that stuff up?! Frostbite stepped on the pile the apprentice chewed up and limped over to the kitten and placed the herbs on its eyes. It yelled in pain but Frostbite knew that was normal. She didnt yell at the kit or hiss at it. "Shhhhh its okay my dear. It will be over soon." She rubbed it in gently on the kits eyes and looked back at Fawnpaw and hissed, "I swear Fawnpaw your slower then turtle trying to walk through a pile of mud."

As Frostbite waited she gently nuzzled the kit to quiet down a bit and her mind went over to Skystar. She wondered how he was doing and maybe after this she was going to see how he was doing. Then there was her own apprentice duskpaw. He should have been here helping her starclan knows why hes not.
